He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, leaving behind a legacy marked by resilience, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones.

Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art’s life journey was characterized by his commitment to family and community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared over 73 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. Art’s influence extends to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he treasured deeply.

Life and Legacy in Torrance

Arturo’s family roots run deep in Torrance, where he was raised in the close-knit community of La Rana. He attended Torrance High School and later forged a successful career, initially spending 20 years at Soule’ Steel in Carson before becoming a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and dedication earned him great respect among peers and superiors alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Art found joy in a variety of activities. He enjoyed camping at Glen Ivy, where countless family memories were created. An avid bowler, he showcased his skills at the Bowl-O-Drome and Gardena Bowl for over four decades. His passion for sports extended to softball, where he competed in a men’s league at Torrance Park in the 1960s. A skilled pool player, he gained recognition in Torrance, winning numerous tournaments and earning a reputation for excellence.

Arturo’s home was a testament to his craftsmanship. He took pride in restoring and maintaining it, with each project reflecting his dedication and care. A voracious reader, he remained a lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, often delighting in the fact that his sons once delivered that very paper.

Final Farewell

Although Art is no longer with his family, his spirit endures through the stories shared and the lessons imparted. His loved ones remember him as a self-made man who rose from modest beginnings to build a fulfilling life rich in love and purpose. They celebrate the countless ways he touched their lives and the values he instilled.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934. This gathering will honor the remarkable life of Arturo O. Valencia, a man who will forever be remembered for his love and devotion to family and friends.
