Dodgers Secure Max Muncy and Alex Vesia for 2026 Season
The Los Angeles Dodgers have kicked off their offseason by exercising options for key players Max Muncy and Alex Vesia, confirming their return for the 2026 season. Muncy, who will receive a $10 million contract, continues to be a significant figure for the team, especially following the retirement of Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers also opted for Vesia’s $3.55 million contract, solidifying their pitching lineup for the upcoming season.
Muncy, who has faced speculation regarding his position on the team for several seasons, remains a vital component of the Dodgers’ roster. Last season, he recorded a batting line of .243/.376/.470, marking a wRC+ of 137, his second consecutive season above 130. Although his defensive performance has been below average and he struggled with injuries, having missed a significant portion of the last two seasons, the decision to retain him is seen as straightforward. The Dodgers have no immediate replacement for Muncy, and his leadership and experience make him invaluable to the team.
Vesia’s situation is slightly more complex. The left-handed reliever has had a solid year, completing 68 games with a 3.02 ERA and a strikeout rate that places him among the top performers in his position. He has battled personal challenges recently, yet he has maintained his status as a trusted member of Manager Dave Roberts‘ bullpen. The Dodgers’ decision to exercise Vesia’s option comes with the understanding that his future may be uncertain, as he will enter free agency after the 2026 season.
Ryan Ward Joins 40-Man Roster
In addition to securing Muncy and Vesia, the Dodgers have added outfielder Ryan Ward to their 40-man roster. Ward, 27, had an impressive season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, hitting 36 home runs and achieving a .937 OPS. This move addresses the team’s need for left-handed hitting depth and could signal upcoming roster changes as the Dodgers look to optimize their lineup.
As the offseason unfolds, the Dodgers are expected to make further moves, including potential trades to accommodate their crowded 40-man roster. The team’s strategic decisions will be closely monitored as they aim to build a championship-contending squad for the 2026 season. With key players secured and emerging talents like Ward joining the fold, the Dodgers are positioning themselves for a competitive year ahead.
