Oregon Ducks Face Injury Challenges Ahead of Iowa Showdown
The No. 9 Oregon Ducks are grappling with significant injury setbacks ahead of their crucial match against the No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes on November 8, 2025. The team’s hopes for a successful College Football Playoff run are now uncertain, particularly with the loss of key wide receivers Dakorien Moore and Gary Bryant Jr. Moore has been sidelined, while Bryant sustained an injury during the first quarter of the game, further straining Oregon’s offensive capabilities.
Bryant, who was seen being helped off the field by teammate Kade Caton, was later filmed walking into the locker room, unable to put weight on his leg. Before the injury, the Ducks had established a 9-0 lead, thanks to a safety and a rushing touchdown by Dierre Hill Jr. However, with the absence of both Moore and Bryant, Oregon must rely on backup players to maintain their momentum.
Moore entered the week as the Ducks’ leading receiver, boasting impressive statistics with significant contributions in both catches and receiving yards. His absence against a formidable opponent like Iowa presents a considerable challenge. Bryant, prior to his injury, had accumulated four touchdowns and 277 yards from 24 receptions this season, marking him as a key player in the Ducks’ offense.
In addition to these injuries, Oregon is also missing wide receiver Evan Stewart, who has yet to play this season, and tight end Kenyon Sadiq, further depleting their offensive depth. The team will look to transfer wide receiver Malik Benson to step up in this challenging matchup. Benson has recorded 277 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 18 catches this season, though he has not found the end zone since October 11, 2025.
Dan Lanning, the head coach of the Ducks, commented on the situation, acknowledging the difficulties presented by Iowa’s defensive strategy. “It’s tough when you have an opportunity for a one-on-one. You want to be able to go win it, but they do a good job of finding pressure and having hands on,” he noted. Lanning emphasized the need for players like Benson to take advantage of any opportunities that arise during the game.
Another wide receiver, Justius Lowe, who has participated in only two games this season, is expected to play a more significant role following Bryant’s injury. Lowe had a standout season in 2024, totaling 21 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown during a successful campaign for the Ducks.
A victory against Iowa is crucial for Oregon, as three of their final four opponents are currently ranked, making each game essential for their playoff aspirations. If the Ducks can navigate through this challenging stretch and secure wins, they will enhance their chances of making it into the College Football Playoff. Conversely, another loss could severely jeopardize their postseason hopes.
The Ducks face a pivotal moment in their season, and the impact of injuries will play a significant role in determining their future in the 2025 campaign.
