Seahawks Fall Short in Overtime Clash Against Cougars
In a thrilling overtime battle, the Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks succumbed to the Coastal Bend Cougars with an 85-81 defeat on January 16, 2026. The game, part of the Region XIV men’s basketball conference, showcased individual performances that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Martins Adonry led the Seahawks with a strong showing, scoring 18 points. He was closely followed by Isaiah Brooks, who contributed 17 points to the team’s efforts. Zion Young and J’Mar Franklin also made significant impacts, adding 14 and 13 points respectively. Despite their efforts, the Seahawks, now with a record of 9-7 overall and 3-5 in Region XIV, could not secure the win.
The Seahawks took a narrow lead into halftime, up 34-29. However, the Cougars rallied, with Richard Safa leading the charge for Coastal Bend, scoring 16 points. The Cougars improved their season record to 5-11 overall and 2-6 in the conference with this victory.
Looking ahead, the Seahawks are set to host the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals on January 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center. They will aim to leverage their strong home record of 9-1 to bounce back from this tough overtime loss.
As the season progresses, the Seahawks will need to build on their strengths while addressing the challenges highlighted in this close contest. The upcoming game presents an opportunity for redemption and a chance to improve their standing in the competitive Region XIV.
