Armed Suspect Shot Dead by Deputy in Corona de Tucson Incident
BREAKING: An armed man was shot and killed by a deputy early Saturday morning in Corona de Tucson, following a domestic violence call that escalated violently. The incident unfolded around 11:40 PM Friday night on the 400 block of South Stone Bench Road, where deputies responded to reports of gunfire, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 47-year-old man had discharged a firearm outside during a domestic dispute. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the initial gunfire. However, as deputies searched the surrounding area, they located the suspect nearby.
Authorities report that when confronted, the man pulled a gun on a deputy who had ordered him to stop. In response, the deputy opened fire. Life-saving measures were administered immediately, but the suspect was declared dead shortly after 12:30 AM on Saturday.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, a multi-agency unit that investigates officer-involved shootings, has been activated to examine the incident. The Tucson Police Department is now the primary agency overseeing the criminal investigation, while the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a separate internal review.
