Cattle Rancher Calls Trump ‘Delusional’ Over Beef Price Claims
UPDATE: In a fierce response to former President Donald Trump‘s recent claims about the cattle industry, Craig Bieber, vice president of the South Dakota Cattleman’s Beef Association, called Trump “delusional” during a live segment on MSNBC this morning. The comment comes after Trump suggested that tariffs he imposed were the reason cattle ranchers are experiencing improved prices.
On Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social to assert, “The Cattle Ranchers, who I love, don’t understand that the only reason they are doing so well, for the first time in decades, is because I put Tariffs on cattle coming into the United States, including a 50% Tariff on Brazil.” He further claimed that without these tariffs, ranchers would still be facing decades of poor market conditions.
Responding to Trump’s remarks, Bieber highlighted the realities of the cattle market. “I think the president is delusional in the fact that he had anything to do with these markets,” Bieber stated. He emphasized that ranchers had been facing years of challenges, including drought, which eroded the cattle herd and led to an anticipated shortage.
Bieber continued, “Almost everybody in the industry that was aware knew this was coming. I just don’t feel that the president — the tariffs didn’t have anything to do with where we were at from a market standpoint.” His comments reflect a growing frustration among ranchers who feel their challenges are being mischaracterized.
This exchange underscores a significant tension between the former president and the agricultural community, as ranchers continue to navigate complex market dynamics. The impact of these statements could resonate beyond social media, affecting public perception and policy discussions around the beef industry.
As the situation develops, all eyes will be on how the cattle industry responds to these claims and whether any political ramifications will emerge from this public clash. The conversation around agricultural tariffs and their implications is expected to remain a hot topic in the coming days.
