CU Buffs Surge in Second Half, Flatten UTSA 88-64

UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance, crushing the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners 88-64 at the CU Events Center on December 2, 2023. After a shaky first half, Colorado dominated the second half, outscoring UTSA and showcasing their resilience following their first loss of the season.

The Buffaloes (9-1) entered halftime with a narrow 35-32 lead, but quickly ignited a game-changing momentum. They opened the second half with a blistering 9-0 run, part of a decisive 17-2 scoring surge that left the Roadrunners reeling. Colorado shot an impressive 62.2% from the field in the second half, while holding UTSA to just 33.3% (12-for-36).

Point guard Barrington Hargress led the charge, delivering a season-high 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including five 3-pointers. Sebastian Rancik also made a significant impact, scoring 12 of his 15 points in the second half, alongside a team-high 7 rebounds. Bangot Dak contributed with 10 points, four assists, and two blocks, while the Buffaloes dominated the boards with a total of 48 rebounds compared to UTSA’s 32.

The Roadrunners (4-6) struggled throughout, with their leading scorer Keaton Simpson managing only 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting. Colorado’s defense tightened significantly after halftime, allowing UTSA to net only 32 points in the second half.
