UPDATE: U.S. District Court Judge Cameron McGowan Currie has issued an urgent order for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to provide complete transcripts from the grand jury that indicted former FBI Director James Comey. This demand follows the DOJ’s failure to include critical statements made by interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan in previous submissions.

Earlier today, Judge Currie highlighted the DOJ’s previous submission’s deficiencies, stating it lacked essential remarks from Halligan before and after the testimony of the key witness. She emphasized the necessity of these transcripts to assess Halligan’s role in the grand jury proceedings. “This court has reviewed the transcript and finds it fails to include remarks made by the indictment signer,” the judge stated in her latest order.

In a striking move, Judge Currie has granted the DOJ just 24 hours to submit a complete transcript that includes all statements from Halligan related to the three-count indictment. She expressed her expectation for the inclusion of comments made prior to and after witness testimony, as well as during the presentation of the indictment.

Former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance commented on the unusual nature of the court’s demands, noting, “It is never good news for the government when a court requests such disclosures.” This situation raises significant implications for the ongoing legal battle, as Comey has argued that the indictment should be dismissed due to Halligan’s alleged invalid appointment.

The fast-developing situation underscores the heightened scrutiny surrounding the indictment process and its potential ramifications for the DOJ. Legal experts are closely monitoring the outcome, as it could set a precedent for transparency in future grand jury proceedings.

As this story unfolds, all eyes remain on the DOJ’s response and the implications of Judge Currie’s demands for the integrity of the indictment process. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
