Serial Slasher Strikes Again: Three Brooklyn Attacks in 24 Hours
UPDATE: A serial slasher is on the loose in Brooklyn after carrying out three unprovoked attacks in less than 24 hours, police confirm. The NYPD has released a surveillance image of the suspect, who is wanted for slashing victims randomly in public spaces, creating an urgent call for community vigilance.
The first attack occurred on a Manhattan-bound Q train around 6:30 a.m. on October 21, 2023, when the assailant cut a 37-year-old man on the left side of the face as the train approached the Church Ave. subway stop in Flatbush. The victim managed to exit the train and alert authorities, who began searching for the attacker.
Less than 12 hours later, at approximately 9:40 p.m. on the same day, the suspect struck again, slashing a 53-year-old man near the intersection of Foster and New York Avenues, about a mile and a half from the initial attack. The violence continued early the next morning, with a 56-year-old man becoming the third victim at around 6:55 a.m. on October 22, just a block away from the earlier incidents near Newkirk Ave. and New York Aves.
All three victims were transported to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, but the fear and anxiety in the community are palpable. The NYPD has ramped up patrols in Flatbush, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Police describe the suspect as wearing a navy blue jacket, black shorts, and white sneakers. The NYPD is actively seeking information from the public and has set up a hotline for tips.
“We urge anyone with information on this serial slasher to come forward. Your anonymity is guaranteed,”
said an NYPD spokesperson.
These attacks come on the heels of a recent subway stabbing incident in Manhattan, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety in public transit. Just last week, a man was stabbed in the back during a heated argument on a crowded D train, prompting calls for increased security measures.
As the search for the slasher continues, officials are reminding residents to stay alert and cautious. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
This developing story underscores the urgent need for community awareness and swift action to prevent further violence. Share this information to help spread awareness and keep your neighborhood safe.
