Thrilling Longmont Halloween Parade Draws Record Crowds Today
UPDATE: The annual Longmont Halloween Parade, held on October 28, 2023, has attracted a record number of participants and spectators, transforming Main Street into a vibrant celebration of creativity and community.
Under sunny fall skies, families clad in elaborate costumes, including many newcomers, filled the streets as cars were replaced by colorful characters. From superheroes to animated icons, the parade showcased the festive spirit of Longmont like never before.
This year, characters from the popular animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” dominated the scene, with many young participants embodying the film’s main character, Rumi. One standout was Sloane, 6, who dazzled in a purple braided wig and adorned her costume with matching symbols. Her mother, Candice Hurowitz, expressed her amazement at the event’s turnout, noting it was their first time participating. “I can’t believe how many people there are,” Hurowitz said before the parade commenced.
Another first-time participant, the Hernon family, embraced the Batman universe, with each member donning unique characters from the iconic series. Misty Hernon, dressed as the Riddler, shared, “We’ve lived here for 13 years, but this is the first time we’ve ever done this.” Their handmade costumes, crafted since March, added a personal touch to the parade.
In addition to the vibrant costumes, the event featured local high school marching bands performing seasonal favorites while dressed in costumes, further enhancing the festive atmosphere. The parade also showcased an impressive array of other outfits, including characters from “The Wizard of Oz,” astronauts, and the much-anticipated return of a massive Bumblebee suit from “Transformers.”
Among the new attendees was Joslyn Strock from Firestone, who marveled at the creativity on display. Dressed as a yellow minion from “Despicable Me,” Strock brought her dog, Rex, dressed as a banana. “A friend of ours does it every year and said it was awesome,” she stated. “So this year, I was like, ‘We have to do it.’”
The Longmont Halloween Parade has become a cherished tradition, providing families with a platform to showcase their creativity, connect with the community, and create lasting memories. As the event continues to grow, it solidifies its place as a highlight of the Halloween season in Longmont.
With the parade now concluded, attendees are already looking forward to next year’s festivities, eager to see how the community will outdo itself once again.
