UFC Fight Night: Onama vs. Garcia Set for Main Event Showdown
URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated main event at UFC Fight Night is set to ignite the Octagon as featherweights David Onama and Steve Garcia face off on October 28, 2023, at 7 p.m. ET at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Both fighters are riding impressive win streaks, making this bout a must-watch for MMA fans.
Onama enters the fight boasting a remarkable four-fight winning streak, most recently defeating Giga Chikadze by unanimous decision in April. Meanwhile, Garcia is on an exceptional run, remaining unbeaten since October 2022 and tallying six consecutive victories, including a unanimous decision over Calvin Kattar this past July. The stakes are high as both fighters aim to secure their spot at the top of the featherweight division.
ESPN’s MMA analysts have weighed in on the matchup, with predictions highlighting Garcia’s knockout potential. Analyst Din Thomas asserts, “Garcia’s pressure and willingness to stand in the pocket will wear on Onama and knock him out.” This sentiment is echoed by ESPN betting expert Ian Parker, who predicts a Garcia victory with odds currently sitting at -135.
Parker elaborated, “As long as Onama can’t take him down and hold him there for long stretches, expect Garcia to win the fight on the feet with his volume and power.” Onama, having absorbed significant damage in previous fights, must be cautious as a clean shot from Garcia could end the fight abruptly.
In addition to the main event, the card features other compelling matchups. Parker also suggests betting on Delija to win (-135) against Cortes-Acosta, noting Delija’s well-rounded skills and knockout power. “It wouldn’t shock me if he got it done here as well,” Parker said, emphasizing Delija’s back-to-back knockout victories.
Another fight to watch is between Norma Dumont and Ketlen Vieira. Dumont is seeking her sixth consecutive win, a feat that could position her for a title shot. Parker expects Dumont to leverage her power and ground control against Vieira, stating, “Look for Dumont to pressure early and stay in top control for the majority of the fight.”
As fans gear up for this electrifying event, the excitement is palpable. With multiple fighters looking to extend their streaks and make a name for themselves, UFC Fight Night promises to deliver thrilling bouts and unforgettable moments.
Tune in to watch the action live on ESPN+ starting with prelims at 4 p.m. ET. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness these fighters battle for glory, as history could be made in the Octagon tonight!
