Isolated Storms and Showers Hit Southern Utah Today
UPDATE: Showers and thunderstorms are moving into southern Utah today, bringing a mix of weather activity across the state. As of October 5, 2023, daytime temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid 60s in most areas, with southern valleys hitting the low 70s and warm spots like St. George soaring into the mid to upper 70s.
Moisture from the Southwest is generating isolated showers and thunderstorms primarily in southern and central Utah. While rain totals may be light, residents should remain alert for possible storm activity throughout the day. Mountainous regions will likely experience the most significant weather, but cities such as Cedar City and the St. George metro could also see some rain.
As the day progresses, showers may push northward, potentially reaching as far as Provo and the Salt Lake Valley by this evening. However, any rain will be brief and scattered, likely tapering off by late morning tomorrow.
Starting tomorrow, October 6, the weather will shift as a cold front approaches. Wrap-around moisture may linger in the southwest through the morning but is expected to diminish by lunchtime. Eastern Utah will continue to experience showers through the afternoon and evening.
Looking ahead, high pressure is set to build on Friday, leading to pleasant weather conditions and temperatures around average, or slightly higher. However, anticipatory weather changes are expected as another cold front moves in on Sunday, bringing scattered showers and a notable drop in temperatures, with northern valleys experiencing highs in the 40s and 50s.
Residents should prepare for colder nights with lows plunging into the 30s early next week. Southern Utah is expected to remain mostly dry, but clouds will increase as temperatures slightly decrease.
