Arkansas Lawmakers Pay Tribute to Former Vice President Dick Cheney

Lawmakers in Arkansas are honoring the legacy of former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who passed away on March 4, 2024, at the age of 84. Cheney’s family announced that he died from complications related to pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. His beloved wife, Lynne Cheney, along with their daughters, Liz and Mary, were by his side during his final moments.

As news of his passing spread, several Arkansas officials expressed their condolences and reflected on Cheney’s extensive career in public service. Former President Bill Clinton took to social media, stating, “Throughout his long career in public service, Dick Cheney was guided by a deep belief that he was doing what was right for America. Though we often disagreed, I always respected his dedication to our country and his unwavering sense of duty. My thoughts are with Lynne and the Cheney family.”

Senator John Boozman also shared his thoughts, emphasizing Cheney’s commitment to national security and his deep love for his family. “Vice President Dick Cheney devoted his life to public service and national security, including fiercely championing America’s leadership abroad. He leaves behind a legacy they and our country will long remember. Cathy and I send our sincere condolences to his loved ones and honor his many contributions to our nation,” Boozman wrote.

Representative Steve Womack recalled his personal experiences with Cheney, stating, “My prayers are with the Cheney family following the passing of former Vice President Cheney. Dick Cheney was a dedicated public servant and committed to the safety and security of his fellow Americans. I first met him when he visited my battalion in the Sinai, Egypt, in 2002 and had the opportunity to reconnect with him years later fishing for cutthroat trout on the Snake River.”

Senator Tom Cotton highlighted Cheney’s dedication to military strength and American leadership, saying, “Dick Cheney dedicated his life to the service of our nation and the people of Wyoming. I extend my condolences to his family and friends.”
