Mirate Launches New Location in Los Angeles’ Arts District
Mirate, the renowned Mexican restaurant and bar originally from Los Feliz, is set to expand with a new location in the vibrant Arts District of Los Angeles. The establishment will open at 530 S. Mateo Street, occupying a ground-floor space in a 35-story mixed-use building that is currently under construction. This development follows approval from the Los Angeles City Planning Department.
The new Mirate will offer a full range of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption and will operate daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. The Arts District location will boast a spacious dining area of 4,936 square feet, accommodating 182 indoor seats and an outdoor patio featuring 40 seats across 745 square feet.
Support for the project has been evident, with endorsements from both the Arts District Neighborhood Council and the Los Angeles River Artists and Business Association (LARABA). These organizations championed the restaurant’s opening with specific conditions, such as limiting patio hours and prohibiting amplified outdoor music. During a public hearing, owner Matt Egan emphasized that the new Mirate would maintain the fine dining sensibility that characterized the original location while enhancing the evolving culinary scene in the Downtown Arts District.
The first Mirate opened at 1712 N. Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz, quickly garnering acclaim for its modern interpretation of Mexican cuisine and an extensive cocktail program focused entirely on Mexican producers. The restaurant earned a spot on the list of the 50 Best Bars in Los Angeles and features a menu created in collaboration with chef David Castro of La Morocha in Ensenada, Mexico.
At the upcoming Arts District location, patrons can expect an ingredient-driven menu that highlights traditional Mexican flavors with a Californian twist. The shareable dishes will include reimagined classics such as shrimp and fish ceviche, short rib fried tacos, lamb skewers, and rockfish with adobo. Additionally, a selection of desserts, including chocolate semifreddo and corn cake with banana ice cream, will complement the dining experience.
Mirate’s beverage program will emphasize cocktails, wines, and beers sourced exclusively from Mexico, aligning with the restaurant’s mission to showcase the country’s rich diversity and craftsmanship. As the Arts District continues to evolve, the arrival of Mirate promises to further enrich the culinary landscape of this dynamic neighborhood.
