Gabe Morgan Wins Fifth Term as Newport News Sheriff, Voter Turnout High
BREAKING: Newport News voters have made critical decisions in the city’s elections, with Gabe Morgan successfully reclaiming his position as sheriff for the fifth consecutive term. As of 10:01 p.m., Morgan secured nearly 72% of the vote against independent challenger Francis Jacobson, who garnered over 28%.

In another pivotal race, Shannon Jones was elected as Newport News’ new commonwealth’s attorney, winning a four-year term after running unopposed. Jones, a former assistant city attorney, previously defeated incumbent Howard Gwynn in the Democratic primary, signaling a shift in local leadership.
Also victorious was Sanu Dieng-Cooper, who defeated independent candidate Justin Kennedy for the position of Newport News treasurer. With over 59% of the vote, Dieng-Cooper will now oversee the city’s financial management, focusing on modernizing technology and enhancing financial literacy for residents.
Incumbent Tiffany Boyle was reelected as commissioner of revenue after running unopposed, continuing her role since 2018. Boyle’s office is responsible for managing critical city financial processes, including business licenses and state income tax returns.
