NIU’s Electric Microcar Set for Production Following EICMA Reveal

NIU’s Director of International, Sieghart Michielsen, confirmed that the vehicle is completing homologation testing, the last step before hitting the market. “We are excited to bring the NIUMM to urban residents who are looking for an affordable and efficient alternative to cars,” Michielsen stated.

The vehicle features a unique design that allows for additional battery slots, enabling users to extend their range significantly. Current owners of NIU scooters can easily switch their existing batteries into the NIUMM, enhancing its appeal. The popularity of L6e quadricycles is evident in models like the Citroen Ami, which has become a favorite for its minimalist design and affordability. Priced at around €7,000, it can also be accessed through subscription or car-sharing services, making it an attractive option for younger drivers and those seeking an easy-to-use vehicle.

The NIUMM aims to tap into this growing market, joining other successful models like the Renault Twizy and Microlino. These vehicles offer just enough comfort for short trips while avoiding the complexities of traditional cars, making them ideal for Europe’s evolving transportation landscape.
