In a thrilling contest that showcased determination and skill, Mount Academy’s girls soccer team triumphed over Blind Brook with a score of 3-2 in overtime during the Class B state tournament’s first-round match held at Wallkill High on November 4, 2023. The victory not only secured a place for Mount Academy in the regional finals but also highlighted the exceptional performance of Brooke Huleatt, who netted all three goals for her team.

Historic Achievement for Huleatt

Huleatt’s performance was particularly remarkable as she became the first soccer player in New York State history to score 100 goals in a season. Her final goal came in overtime, sealing the Eagles’ victory and demonstrating her pivotal role in the team’s success this season. With this win, Mount Academy improved its record to 19-0.

As the Eagles prepare for their next challenge, they will face Long Island’s Cold Spring Harbor in the regional final on November 8, 2023, at noon. The winner of this match will advance to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Final Four, scheduled for November 14 and 15 at Cortland High.

Game Highlights and Key Performers

Throughout the match, Mount Academy exhibited strong teamwork with key assists from players Deanna Wiser, Marlys Swinger, and Nina Wright. Eagles goalkeeper Kate Moody made five crucial saves, contributing significantly to the team’s defensive efforts.

On the opposing side, Blind Brook, which concluded its season with a record of 15-3-2, scored two goals from Kendall Konigsberg and Lola Gonzalez. Player Sena Tarnoff provided one assist, while goalkeeper Bella Montesano made an impressive nine saves, showcasing her skills despite the loss.
