UFC Star BJ Penn Arrested for Assault in Ongoing Legal Troubles
BREAKING: Former UFC champion BJ Penn has been arrested once again, this time charged with third-degree assault in his sixth arrest of 2025. The 46-year-old was taken into custody without incident at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department, following a report of assault that occurred earlier at a residence in Hilo, Hawaii.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded at 1 a.m. on Monday when the alleged victim, a 45-year-old man, accused Penn of repeatedly punching and kicking him. The victim sought medical attention for his injuries, underscoring the severity of the incident.
Penn, whose legal name is Jay Dee Penn, managed to post $1,000 bail and is set to make his initial court appearance regarding the assault charge on December 2. In Hawaii, a conviction for third-degree assault can lead to a maximum of one year in jail, raising the stakes for the former athlete.
This latest arrest continues a troubling trend for Penn, who has faced multiple legal issues throughout 2025. Just last month, a judge mandated that he undergo a mental health evaluation, with a follow-up court appearance scheduled for January. Most of Penn’s recent turmoil appears linked to his claims that “imposters” have taken over his family, a situation that has escalated into serious allegations of domestic abuse.
Earlier this year, Penn’s mother, Lorraine Shin, obtained a protection order against him after alleging domestic violence in May. In a bizarre twist, Penn publicly urged the Hilo Police Department to investigate supposed murders within his family, alleging that “fake frauds” were attempting to steal from them.
The fallout from these events has raised concerns and garnered media attention, as fans and the public watch closely. Penn, once a legendary figure in mixed martial arts, retired in 2019 with an unfortunate record of seven consecutive losses, including three by knockout.
As the situation develops, many are left wondering what the future holds for the former UFC lightweight champion. The upcoming court dates will likely provide further clarity on his legal challenges and the ongoing struggles impacting his life.
