Amy Poehler Recalls First-Class Altercation During Podcast
Actress Amy Poehler recently shared an unexpected incident from a flight that took a heated turn. During a December 2025 episode of her podcast, “Good Hang,” Poehler, alongside her “Mean Girls” co-star Ana Gasteyer, recounted a memorable exchange with a fellow passenger while traveling in first class.
Gasteyer reminded Poehler of a particular flight they took years ago, during which Poehler found herself in a confrontation. “You got into a fight with a guy. Baby Frances was on the plane with us, do you remember that?” Gasteyer asked, referring to her daughter, who is now 23. Poehler expressed surprise at the memory, noting, “And I still got into a fight with the guy with the baby around?”
The incident unfolded when a man seated in first class expressed his dissatisfaction with Poehler’s volume. “Excuse me, I’m trying to [relax]. You’re being too loud,” the man reportedly said. Poehler, not taking kindly to the complaint, responded, “My Boston came out, let’s just say that,” indicating a spirited reaction. While details of the exchange remain vague, it seems that some colorful language was exchanged, much to the apparent dismay of the man, who was upset that Poehler was swearing in front of a child.
Ana Gasteyer described the argument as “the best thing I’ve ever seen,” emphasizing that she did not take offense at Poehler’s language. The anecdote is just one of many entertaining stories shared on “Good Hang,” which recently won the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Podcast.
In her acceptance speech for the 2026 Golden Globe, Poehler emphasized the podcast’s mission to bring joy in a challenging world. “It is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter and laughing with people, not at them,” she said. Her enthusiasm for the project was palpable, as she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue creating content that resonates with listeners.
Poehler also took a moment during her speech to acknowledge her boyfriend, Joel Lovell, stating, “I love you. Thank you for everything.” Lovell, who has a background in media and previously served as deputy editor of “The New York Times Magazine,” has transitioned into the podcasting sphere, further supporting Poehler’s creative endeavors.
Previously married to actor Will Arnett, with whom she shares two children, Poehler continues to thrive in her career, blending humor and heartfelt moments in her projects. As she reflects on past experiences, including her lively flight from years ago, Poehler’s storytelling remains a testament to her engaging personality and dedication to entertaining her audience.
