Barbara Ann Meyer, Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Passes Away
Barbara Ann Meyer, aged 78, of Forney, Texas, passed away on January 3, 2026. She will be remembered for her dedication to family, her career in public service, and her active involvement in her community.
Born on October 22, 1947, to Jimmie Peter Mikulenka and Mildred Agnes (Samora) Mikulenka, Barbara graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1965. She furthered her education at Baldwin Business School and began her career with Dewitt County Health and Human Services. Barbara later transferred to the Victoria County Social Security Office, where she served as a Claims Specialist.
A Life of Service and Family
In August 1972, Barbara married Carl Meyer and subsequently moved to Houston, where she continued her work as a Claims Specialist at the Social Security Office. After starting her family, which included daughter Stephanie and son Kevin, Barbara transitioned to a role as an Administrative Assistant in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Revenue Service in the Dallas area.
Before her retirement, Barbara served as the secretary for Greenland Hills United Methodist Church in Dallas. Following her retirement, she devoted her time to her grandchildren, Owen and Zeke, whom she lovingly cared for. Family vacations at the beach were a cherished tradition, and Barbara’s greatest joy stemmed from her roles as a mother and grandmother.
Legacy and Remembrance
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Whisenant, and son-in-law Adam, both of Forney; her sister-in-law, Bernice Mikulenka, of Moulton; brother Jimmie Don and his wife Verlene; sister Gayle Parenica and her husband Ronnie, all of Victoria; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Kevin Meyer, former husband Carl Meyer, and brother Kenneth Mikulenka.
A visitation will take place at 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2026, at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary at 7:15 p.m.. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on January 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum, officiated by Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Yoakum.
Pallbearers for the service will include Adam Whisenant, Owen Whisenant, Zeke Whisenant, Ronnie Parenica, Wesley Mikulenka, and Tyler Paschal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
