The Carolina Artists Guild has announced a new initiative aimed at enhancing local artist visibility through a series of monthly events called the Second Saturday Art Sale. Set to commence on February 14, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., these sales will take place in the lobby of the Salisbury Post/CompleatKidz building, located at 131 W. Innes St.. This initiative is designed to provide artists with a platform to showcase and sell their work while engaging with the community.

Cherrathee Hager, the guild’s president, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to increase exposure for the artists. “We have been considering ways to present our artwork, but we lacked a suitable venue. Now that we have access to this building, we can better promote our artists,” she stated. The events will feature tables set up inside, with plans for outdoor displays and live demonstrations.

The guild has scheduled these sales for the second Saturday of each month, although there may be some months when other commitments, such as OctoberTour and the Spencer Artwalk, could affect the schedule. Andy Mooney, the guild’s vice president and technical coordinator, originally proposed the idea of pop-up art shows last year as a means to enhance visibility for the guild and its members. “Currently, we lack a permanent location. These monthly sales will allow community members to engage with our artists and view their work more frequently,” he added.

The Second Saturday Art Sales will serve as a space for smaller artworks, such as paintings and prints, along with live demonstrations from participating artists. Hager emphasized that this initiative would create a vibrant atmosphere where artists can interact with the community. “These events allow artists to demonstrate their work, meet potential buyers, and build relationships without having to wait for larger expos,” she said.

Additionally, the guild aims to make art accessible to a wider audience. Hager noted that their gift shop has already proven popular, offering affordable options for community members who may not be able to purchase higher-priced artwork. “This event is a fantastic opportunity for the community to meet artists, connect with them, and support their endeavors,” she explained.

Mooney indicated that interest in the monthly sales has been strong, with expectations of participation from around 15 to 20 artists each month. Since participation is limited to guild members, this initiative could also encourage new memberships. “We are always pleased to welcome new members, and this exposure may help increase our numbers,” Mooney noted.

The Carolina Artists Guild has a history of engaging with the community, previously hosting an Art Expo and working with various groups, including children and nursing homes. Hager reiterated their commitment to community involvement, stating, “We want to let people know we are here and what we are doing. This event is our way of furthering that exposure.”

As the guild looks forward, Hager shared aspirations for securing a permanent location that would include gallery and classroom space. The excitement surrounding the Second Saturday Art Sales is palpable, with Hager confirming that they have an official name and logo for the initiative. “On the second Saturdays, we will be there with art,” she affirmed.
