Elizabethton Library Hosts Free Line Dancing Classes for Adults
The Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library is offering free line dancing classes, providing a lively opportunity for adults to engage in exercise while having fun. The classes, conducted by local instructor Katie Myers, are designed to teach participants the fundamentals of line dancing, making it accessible to dancers of all skill levels.
Maryann Owen, the library’s technology librarian, encourages anyone interested in a unique form of exercise to participate. “If you’re looking for a fun way to exercise, try it out,” she stated. Owen emphasizes that line dancing is not only enjoyable but also a beneficial workout. “Even though it’s fun to learn a dance, it’s also an exercise, so if you’re looking for something fun and get some steps in, I would try it out,” she added.
Classes focus on breaking down the steps of line dancing, ensuring that even those who may not consider themselves adept dancers can join in. “I’m uncoordinated, I’m slow to learn, and she goes through the steps, and it’s so much fun, and you learn the dance,” Owen remarked, highlighting the inclusive nature of the program.
These line dancing classes are part of the library’s broader adult services program. Participants must be aged 18 and older, but residency in Carter County is not a requirement for attendance. This approach aims to welcome a diverse group of individuals looking to improve their physical fitness and connect with their community.
Owen hopes that initiatives like these will remind the public of the wide array of services the library offers beyond traditional book lending. “It’s sad that so many people don’t understand that our library isn’t just about books,” she said. “We have wonderful services here, and they really should come by and check us out.”
Classes are held every Monday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the library. For more information about library services and events, interested individuals can visit the library’s official website at eccpl.info or check their Facebook page.
This initiative highlights the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library’s commitment to community engagement and promoting healthy lifestyles through accessible and enjoyable activities.
