Fans Excited as Fictional Game “Demonik” from “Grandma’s Boy” May Become Real
The fictional video game Demonik from the cult classic film Grandma’s Boy may soon transition from screen to reality. Allen Covert, who starred in and co-wrote the 2006 comedy, revealed at a recent event that discussions are underway to finally bring the game to life, coinciding with the movie’s 20th anniversary in 2026.
“We found out this weekend,” Covert shared, referencing a conversation with a former associate from Majesco, the company that originally developed the game.
In the film, Covert’s character, Alex, is a video game designer who secretly works on Demonik. The project nearly saw a real-world release years ago, but it stalled when Majesco faced financial difficulties.
During the event, Covert reminisced about his efforts to secure legitimate game footage for the film. “I reached out to all the gaming companies to say, ‘We’re making this movie, and we want real game footage, but we want it to look good,’” he recalled. Although Majesco had developed a beta version of Demonik, the company ultimately went under before the game could launch.
Recently, Covert received encouraging news from someone involved with the game’s development. This individual indicated that they might have rediscovered the project, igniting hope that Demonik could finally see the light of day. Fans of both the film and the game are eagerly discussing the potential release on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.
Reactions to Covert’s announcement have been overwhelmingly positive. One user expressed enthusiasm, stating, “DEMONIK IS REAL 😂😂😂😂 oh my God take my money.” Another noted the game’s impressive graphics compared to contemporary titles, saying, “The actual gameplay for that Demonik game looked AWESOME and realistic.”
Covert’s comments have sparked nostalgia among fans, many of whom are suggesting that a special edition of Grandma’s Boy could accompany the game’s release. Suggestions include bundling the game with a 4K version of the film to celebrate its legacy.
As anticipation builds, the prospect of Demonik becoming a playable game has rekindled interest in the original film. The journey from a fictional creation to a tangible product may soon come full circle, much to the delight of fans who have long championed the unique blend of humor and gaming culture presented in Grandma’s Boy.
