The season one finale of *Pluribus*, titled “La Chica o El Mundo,” has left viewers buzzing, particularly regarding its dark conclusion. Star Karolina Wydra, who portrays Zosia, offers an unexpectedly optimistic perspective on the episode’s troubling ending. Despite her character’s compliance with Carol Sturka’s (played by Rhea Seehorn) alarming request for an atomic bomb, Wydra believes there is still room for reconsideration in Carol’s choices.

During an interview with *The Hollywood Reporter*, Wydra reflected on the complex relationship between Zosia and Carol, especially after a significant parting glance exchanged between them. She interprets this moment as an indication of lingering doubt on Carol’s part regarding her plans for escalation. “It’s not goodbye forever; it’s just, ‘Are you sure about whatever it is that you’re doing?’” Wydra explained, emphasizing the emotional weight behind the scene.

The finale delivered a shocking twist, revealing Carol’s awareness of Zosia and the Joined’s efforts to convert her into one of them. This revelation reframes earlier episodes, particularly the eighth, which showcased a romantic milestone between Zosia and Carol after the reconstruction of a local diner. Wydra pointed out that while some might view Zosia’s actions as manipulative, she believes they stem from a genuine desire to bring happiness to Carol. “Zosia is not sinister,” Wydra remarked, asserting that her character operates from a place of honesty and a wish to serve.

In episode four, Carol urged Zosia to reveal how to reverse the Joining process. However, Zosia’s inability to lie underscores the complexities of their situation. Wydra articulated that the Joined may not even recognize their own manipulations, a sentiment echoed by series creator Vince Gilligan in a separate discussion. He noted that there are instances in real life where individuals manipulate without realizing it, suggesting that the Joined’s programming might inhibit their awareness in similar ways.

As the conversation progressed, Wydra shared insights about Zosia’s backstory, including her Polish heritage, which was incorporated into the character after she was cast. The decision to name her Zosia, a Polish name, was a thoughtful choice reflecting Wydra’s own background and added depth to the character. “I felt very honored,” she stated regarding the creative decision.

Wydra also discussed the weighty emotional scenes, particularly one where Zosia goes into cardiac arrest, drawing parallels to a real-life incident involving actor Bob Odenkirk on the set of *Better Call Saul*. She noted the palpable melancholy during filming, as many cast and crew members were reminded of Odenkirk’s experience. “There was melancholy in the air,” she recalled, highlighting how the scene resonated with both the actors and audience alike.

As viewers await the next season, Wydra expressed excitement about the creative direction. She emphasized that the cast’s lack of foresight into the storyline allows for more authentic performances, as they discover the narrative alongside the audience. “It’s really fun that way,” she remarked, reflecting on the collaborative nature of storytelling in *Pluribus*.

The first season of *Pluribus* is now streaming on Apple TV, leaving fans eager for what lies ahead in the evolving saga of Zosia and Carol.
