ABC’s Matt Gutman is set to join CBS, marking a significant shift in the network’s anchor lineup. This transition comes in the wake of announcements from both Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson, who are departing from CBS Evening News in December. While it remains unconfirmed whether Gutman will directly replace either anchor, reports indicate he is a key figure in CBS’s future plans.

As of December 6, 2025, the Los Angeles Times reported that Gutman is leaving ABC after a tenure that began in 2008. His experience includes contributions to various programs such as ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, Nightline, and 20/20. Speculation is rife regarding his potential role at CBS, especially in light of the recent exits of DuBois and Dickerson.

DuBois announced his departure on December 4, 2025, in a heartfelt Instagram post, while Dickerson shared his announcement on October 27. Dickerson’s exit comes after a 16-year career at CBS, during which he faced suspension twice for reporting errors and COVID-19 policy violations.

Gutman’s hiring represents the first major decision by CBS News’ new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, who assumed her role in October. Although sources suggest Gutman might fill the void left by DuBois and Dickerson, it has also been reported that Dickerson will not take on an anchor role but will instead join CBS as a correspondent.

CBS is navigating a significant transition period, as the network has yet to confirm the future anchor lineup for CBS Evening News. The departures of DuBois and Dickerson signal a shift in strategy for the network, which is keen to revitalize its news programming.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on CBS to see how they reshape their evening news segment and whether Gutman will take on a leading role in this new chapter.
