Rachel Ward Embraces Aging Amid Social Media Criticism
Rachel Ward, the acclaimed actress known for her role in *The Thorn Birds*, has responded to social media criticism regarding her appearance. Following a recent video showcasing her farm in Australia, the 68-year-old star found herself the subject of mixed reactions online. Despite receiving thousands of supportive comments, she also faced negative remarks questioning her natural aging.
In the video, which garnered nearly 1 million views, Ward shared insights about her life on a beef cattle farm, which she operates with her husband, Bryan Brown, and their three adult children: Matilda, Rosie, and Joe. While many praised her authenticity and the message of embracing one’s true self, a few comments were less than kind, suggesting she looked older than her age.
Determined to address the criticism, Ward posted a follow-up video on December 28, 2023, where she discussed her perspective on aging. “Dear those of you who responded to the brouhaha over the trolls criticizing my appearance,” she began. “I have tried to do a little better today. I ran my hands through my hair, etc. but anyways, just to say, do not fear aging. It’s a wonderful period of life, in your 60s.”
Ward expressed her contentment with the life experiences she has gained, stating, “I am more fulfilled than ever and I have no regrets, leaving my youth and beauty behind.” She encouraged viewers to appreciate the later years, emphasizing that they bring unique gifts and joys that are often overlooked until one reaches that stage.
In her heartfelt message, she continued, “I’m not youthful, but I am a very happy camper. Later years are to be exalted and welcomed. You wait until you get there. They have so many other gifts to bestow that you have no idea what they are until you get there.”
At the end of her video, Ward expressed gratitude to her fans who offered kind words. She acknowledged the societal pressures surrounding youth and beauty, advising others to let go of these worries. “Don’t worry about me,” she concluded, reinforcing her belief in the beauty of aging naturally. “I do recognize that we’re all a little bit worried about losing our youth and resorting to rather drastic ways of holding on to it, but let it go.”
The actress has openly discussed her choice not to undergo cosmetic procedures in her 60s, aligning with sentiments shared by peers in the industry, including actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who has criticized the prevalence of plastic surgery among celebrities.
Ward’s candid approach to aging resonates with many, showcasing a powerful message about self-acceptance and the importance of celebrating life’s stages. As she continues to share her journey through social media, the dialogue she has sparked encourages others to embrace their own aging process with grace and confidence.
