Celebrate MLK Day and Enjoy Keyshia Cole in Baltimore This Week

Baltimore is alive with events this week from January 16 to 22, 2024, offering a range of activities that celebrate civil rights, music, and family fun. Residents and visitors can engage in artistic expression, enjoy musical performances, and participate in exciting competitions.

Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 16, the American Visionary Art Museum will host the MLK Dare to Dream Day. This free event encourages participants to express their hopes for a better world through creativity. Attendees can join the Peace Birds Art Workshop, led by local artists, or participate in a writing workshop conducted by author B. Sharise Moore. The day will also feature an Open Mic and Poetry Slam, allowing voices to be heard from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 800 Key Highway.

Additionally, the celebration continues on January 20 at the Walters Art Museum, where a tribute to Dr. King will take place. From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., attendees can enjoy performances by notable artists, including singer-songwriter Ray Winder and Devon Fleming, a semifinalist from The Voice. The event will be hosted by poet and professor Unique Robinson, and participants must register in advance at the museum’s website.

Enjoy Live Music and Family Events

The weekend brings the highly anticipated performance by the Princess of Hip-Hop Soul, Keyshia Cole, on January 21. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of her album *The Way It Is*, Cole will perform at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland. Known for hits like “Love” and “I Should Have Cheated,” her concert promises to be a highlight of the week. Tickets for the show start at $167.01.

For families looking for engaging activities, the 8th Annual Fairy Tale & Superhero Festival will take place on January 19 at the Abingdon Library, located at 2510 Tollgate Road. Children are encouraged to dress in their favorite superhero costumes to enjoy various fun activities, including the Hulk Smash-Exit Prize and the Greasy Goblin. The free event runs from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Lastly, from January 19-21, the CFG Bank Arena will host the thrilling Monster Jam. Families can witness their favorite monster trucks, including Grave Digger and Megalodon, perform incredible stunts. Showtimes include Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. Ticket prices start at $32.
