Doncic Scores 43, Downplays Groin Injury After Lakers Loss
UPDATE: Luka Doncic delivered a stunning performance with 43 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 119-109 defeat to the Golden State Warriors on October 24, 2023. However, concerns arose as he spent considerable time in the training room post-game tending to a groin issue on his right leg.
Emerging from the locker room nearly 90 minutes after the final buzzer, Doncic downplayed the injury. “It’s probably nothing,” he stated, noting a slight discomfort after his hip moved awkwardly during the game. The star player emphasized, “Just felt it a little bit, but it’s probably nothing.”
Despite the injury scare, Doncic showcased his skills throughout the match, recording 12 rebounds and 9 assists, while also demonstrating improved mobility on defense with two steals. “I think I’m getting better on the defensive end, I’m just trying to get more involved, more communication [with his teammates],” he added.
Doncic’s offensive prowess was evident as he dominated inside, shooting an impressive 13-for-14 in the paint and 15-for-17 on two-pointers, according to ESPN Research. However, he struggled with three-point shooting, going just 2-for-10, contributing to the Lakers’ overall poor performance from beyond the arc at 8-for-32.
The defeat highlighted ongoing issues for the Lakers, particularly their struggles in the third quarter, where they were outscored 35-25. Lakers coach JJ Redick expressed frustration, stating, “The trend I see is that we continue to be a terrible third-quarter team. Gotta rethink some things and it’s a two-way thing with the guys.”
Looking ahead, the Lakers have two days to regroup and practice before facing the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Friday. As Doncic recovers from his minor injury, all eyes will be on how he bounces back in the upcoming match. Fans are eager to see if he can maintain his explosive form despite the groin concern.
