FHSAA Football Playoff Pairings to be Revealed Today at Noon
UPDATE: The Florida High School Athletics Association (FHSAA) is set to announce the highly anticipated 2025 state high school football playoff bracket pairings today at noon via the association’s YouTube channel. As excitement builds, projections indicate that four Orlando-area teams could secure the coveted region No. 1 seeds.
According to early predictions, teams from the Orlando area—DeLand, Edgewater, Jones, and Bishop Moore—are expected to claim top seeds in their respective regions. These projections come after The First Academy’s stunning win against Lakeland on Friday night, which may elevate Edgewater to the No. 1 overall seed in Class 5A.
Edgewater, boasting an impressive 10-0 record, could leapfrog Lakeland, which currently sits at 8-2. The implications of this shift are significant, as the FHSAA’s latest power rankings previously placed Lakeland at the top of Class 5A with 21.651 points, while Edgewater was 3rd at 18.012. With Lakeland’s recent loss, Edgewater’s position may solidify, potentially leading to four No. 1 seeds from Orlando for the first time in recent history.
Should these projections hold, the playoff will feature four rematches within the Class 7A bracket. Notable matchups include Hagerty visiting Lake Mary, Seminole at Spruce Creek, and Winter Park challenging Boone. In these rematches, previous outcomes may influence team strategies as Hagerty previously fell to Lake Mary 55-17, and Boone narrowly edged Winter Park 44-38.
In Region 2, Ocoee will face West Orange, a rematch of their earlier contest won by West Orange 21-14. However, a significant uncertainty looms over the 1A brackets, as a judge’s ruling is still pending on whether TFA’s playoff ban will be lifted. This decision could dramatically alter the landscape of the playoffs.
The Sentinel has reached out to Heitner Legal, the law firm advocating for TFA players, but has yet to receive a response. Should TFA be allowed to compete, it would likely elevate their record to 5-5 and position them for a first-round home game against Lakeland Christian (currently 8-2), potentially knocking out Father Lopez from contention.
As the clock ticks down to the FHSAA announcement, anticipation grows among teams, fans, and communities. The stakes are high, and every matchup will be crucial as playoffs approach. Be sure to tune in at noon for the official pairings and to see how predictions align with reality.
