Nokia CEO Confirms AI Investments Surge Amid ‘Super Cycle’
UPDATE: Nokia CEO Justin Hotard has declared a robust commitment to AI investments, emphasizing that the technology is currently experiencing a “super cycle” with “massive” long-term prospects. Speaking exclusively to CNBC on October 15, Hotard highlighted the ongoing surge in AI developments, stating, “I think this is a secular growth trend for many years.”

He pointed to the historical trajectory of the internet, where initial bubbles led to unprecedented growth. “Yes, we had a bubble in the internet, but even if you look at that over a two, or three, or five-year period, you see that bubble burst, and then you see tremendous growth well above where the bubble was,” he explained.

Hotard noted that AI has created a “tremendous demand around the network buildout,” indicating that the infrastructure to support these technologies is rapidly evolving. With tech giants investing heavily—Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg recently announced a commitment of at least $600 billion towards US data centers and infrastructure through 2028—the stakes have never been higher.
Hotard cautioned against viewing AI through a short-term lens, remarking, “It’s hard for me to predict what exactly will happen in AI on a quarter or one-year basis, but I think the long-term prospects are massive.” This perspective is crucial as companies navigate a landscape filled with both opportunity and uncertainty.
