Oracle Unveils AMD-Powered Supercluster at AI World 2025
UPDATE: Oracle has just announced a groundbreaking expansion of its partnership with AMD at its annual AI World 2025 conference. The tech giant will become the first hyperscaler to offer a publicly available supercluster powered by an astonishing 50,000 AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs, marking a significant shift in the competitive landscape of cloud computing.
This major announcement builds on Oracle and AMD’s long-standing relationship, enhancing previous deployments that utilized AMD’s MI300X and MI355X GPUs. The new supercluster will integrate a comprehensive suite of AMD components, including next-generation AMD EPYC ‘Venice’ CPUs and Pensando ‘Vulcano’ networking, solidifying Oracle’s commitment to providing customers with advanced AI infrastructure.
The messaging at AI World 2025 is clear: Oracle aims to deliver AI directly to customers and their data, rather than the other way around. This strategic move opens up opportunities for collaboration with rival hyperscalers in cloud hosting, allowing for greater flexibility and choice among chip vendors.
Oracle’s latest Helios racks feature a dense, liquid-cooled design that can support up to 72 GPUs per rack. Additionally, Oracle will provision up to three 800 Gbps ‘Vulcano’ AI-NICs for each GPU, with memory capabilities reaching 432GB of HBM4 and an impressive 20 TB/s of memory bandwidth. This configuration enables customers to train and infer models that are 50% larger than those of previous generations, significantly enhancing performance for AI applications.
In tandem with this announcement, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) also confirmed the general availability of OCI Compute featuring AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, boasting an availability of up to 131,072 GPUs within the zettascale Supercluster.
According to Oracle’s Executive Vice President Mahesh Thiagarajan, this ongoing partnership with AMD is a direct response to customer demands for “robust, scalable, and high-performance infrastructure” that delivers “the best price-performance, open, secure, and scalable cloud foundation.”
In reaction to this announcement, AMD shares surged by approximately 8.7%, reflecting investor optimism about the partnership’s potential impact on the industry.
As the AI landscape continues to evolve, Oracle’s commitment to leveraging multiple chip vendors and maintaining strong partnerships positions it well in a competitive market. The implications of this supercluster’s launch will be closely monitored by industry experts and competitors alike.
Stay tuned for further updates as Oracle and AMD continue to redefine the capabilities of AI in cloud computing.
