Ranchers Blast Trump: Claims Tariffs Boost Cattle Industry False
UPDATE: The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association has issued a forceful rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s recent comments claiming his tariffs are the reason for the success of American cattle ranchers. This urgent response follows Trump’s remarks made on Wednesday, where he asserted, “Cattle Ranchers, who I love, don’t understand that the only reason they are doing so well, for the first time in decades, is because I put Tariffs on cattle coming into the United States, including a 50% Tariff on Brazil.”
The association countered Trump’s narrative on social media, emphasizing that ranchers’ achievements stem from their tireless efforts. “The reality is that ranchers’ success is driven by their own hard work,” they stated. The cattlemen highlighted that U.S. producers thrive in “one of the most competitive marketplaces in the world,” providing the “safest, highest-quality beef on earth.”
This clash over tariffs occurs amid rising concerns that the administration’s policies may undermine domestic cattle prices. The association called out the administration for considering the importation of more Argentinian beef, stating, “Cattlemen and women cannot stand behind President Trump while he undercuts the future of family farmers and ranchers.”
In their response, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association urged Trump and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins to allow cattle markets to function without interference. They declared, “If the administration is truly an ally of America’s cattle producers, we call on him to abandon this effort to manipulate markets.”
The association’s statement also called for immediate action on critical issues affecting the industry, including the completion of the promised New World Screwworm facility in Texas, increased investments to safeguard the domestic cattle herd from foreign animal diseases like FMD, and the need to tackle regulatory challenges such as the delisting of the gray wolf and the management of black vultures.
This very public dispute underscores the growing tension between the Trump administration and the agricultural sector at a pivotal moment for American ranchers. As the situation develops, stakeholders in the cattle industry are watching closely to see how these comments and policies will impact their livelihoods.
As ranchers prepare for a crucial season ahead, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s stark warning serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by family farms. The implications of these tariff discussions could resonate through the supply chain, affecting prices and exports in the near future.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation evolves.
