Towns ‘Still Stunned’ After Knicks Rout Timberwolves, 137-114
UPDATE: In a striking emotional moment, Karl-Anthony Towns expressed lingering disbelief over his trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the New York Knicks after a commanding 137-114 victory on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
“I’m still stunned, I mean, I’m still stunned. It’s weird,” Towns stated, reflecting on the trade that occurred just over a year ago. His sentiments underline the complex emotions surrounding the blockbuster transaction that sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota as the Knicks aimed to bolster their lineup.
The game was particularly significant for Towns, who played against his former team for the second time since the trade. Despite his strong performance—contributing 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks in 31 minutes—the emotional weight was palpable. “It’s different when you’re in the process and now you’re going against the process,” he remarked, emphasizing his ongoing connection to the Timberwolves.
The Knicks viewed Towns as a perfect complement to their star player, Jalen Brunson, while the Timberwolves were motivated to alleviate salary cap pressures. This decision came after a season where Minnesota made a surprising run to the Western Conference Finals, raising questions about the franchise’s direction.
Towns also shared that he remains in close contact with his former teammates, communicating “every day, if not every other day.” His bond with the Timberwolves runs deep, as he acknowledged the team’s current prowess, saying, “They’re a great team. To see what they’re doing right now, special, and I expect nothing less than greatness from them.”
While the Knicks celebrated their victory, Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards took Towns’ dunk over him in stride, humorously noting, “Man, he dunked on me today. I didn’t jump, though.” The camaraderie between former teammates and the competitive spirit of the game added layers of emotion to the evening.
As the Knicks continue to build momentum following this victory, both teams aim for further success this season. Towns, who spent nine seasons with the Timberwolves, remains a beloved figure in Minneapolis, showcasing the lasting impact of his time there.
Fans are left to wonder how Towns’ journey will unfold in New York, especially as both the Knicks and Timberwolves set their sights on the playoffs. The NBA season is heating up, and with Towns’ reflections and performances, the narrative promises to captivate basketball enthusiasts everywhere.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as both teams strive for excellence in the coming games.
