Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Shanola Hampton Discuss ‘Found’ Romance
The recent streaming of Found on Netflix has reignited discussions among fans about the complex relationship between characters Gabi Mosely and Sir, portrayed by Shanola Hampton and Mark-Paul Gosselaar respectively. The series, which premiered in 2023 and aired on NBC, followed Gabi and her team as they worked tirelessly to locate missing individuals overlooked by law enforcement. While the show primarily revolved around these cases, it also delved into the intriguing and troubled dynamic between Gabi and Sir.
Gabi’s relationship with Sir is marked by significant tension, as evidenced by a storyline where Gabi kidnaps Sir. Flashbacks reveal that their tumultuous connection began years earlier when Sir himself kidnapped Gabi as a teenager. Despite its compelling narrative, Found was canceled in 2025 after only two seasons, leaving many viewers longing for resolution regarding the fate of Gabi and Sir’s relationship.
Insights from the Stars of ‘Found’
In the lead-up to the series’ conclusion, both Gosselaar and Hampton shared their thoughts on the chemistry that has captivated audiences. Hampton noted in an April 2025 interview with Us Weekly that the chemistry between her and Gosselaar is palpable. “The truth is I can see [the intrigue] because there is a chemistry,” she said. “We are used to a man and a woman having chemistry — and then it automatically means a relationship.” She emphasized that their dynamic was not initially planned but developed organically throughout the first season.
Hampton expressed that the complexity of their characters’ emotions adds a unique layer to the show. “People don’t really know what to do with their emotions. … I think that’s what makes the show so special,” she added, suggesting that fans need to see more of their relationship to understand it fully.
Gosselaar echoed Hampton’s sentiments, attributing their chemistry to a natural connection. “It’s not something we ever work on — it just happened organically,” he explained in a March 2025 interview. He acknowledged that while onscreen chemistry can sometimes be misconstrued, his genuine friendship with Hampton enhances their performances. “Sometimes you don’t need to like the person in real life for there to be chemistry on the screen,” he remarked, highlighting the authentic bond they share.
The Nature of Sir and Gabi’s Connection
Gosselaar also clarified the nature of Sir’s feelings for Gabi, emphasizing that they are rooted in deep affection rather than a sexual undertone. “There’s nothing sexual about Sir’s interest in Gabi,” he stated. “When I’m saying these lines, I just have to understand Sir’s deep affection for Gabi — and his love for her.” He described Gabi as someone who brings light to Sir’s life, reinforcing the emotional depth of their relationship.
Hampton further elaborated on their dynamic, stating that their chemistry is an unforced aspect of their performances. “We wouldn’t dial anything back. It organically evolved,” she explained. “If we consciously made an effort to dial it back, it would just look forced.” The duo’s commitment to authenticity in their portrayals allows viewers to connect with their characters on a deeper level.
In a light-hearted moment, Hampton offered advice to fans who support the Gabi and Sir relationship. “Those of you out there shipping Sir and Gabi, ladies, you should want better for yourselves,” she joked in April 2025, cautioning against romanticizing the actions of a character who has a history of kidnapping.
As audiences reflect on the narrative of Found, the discussions surrounding Gabi and Sir’s relationship serve as a reminder of the complexities of human emotions and relationships, even within the framework of scripted television.
