Disney Employee Injured by 400-Pound Boulder at Stunt Show
A Disney employee sustained injuries during a live performance of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney World in Orlando. The incident occurred when a prop boulder, weighing over 400 pounds, became dislodged and rolled towards the audience. In a heroic act, a cast member intervened to prevent the boulder from reaching spectators but was injured in the process.
During the stunt show, the boulder, which is a key element in the iconic chase scene from *Raiders of the Lost Ark*, malfunctioned and rolled off its designated track. A cast member dashed into its path, successfully halting the boulder’s momentum. Despite this brave action, he was struck by the prop and fell to the ground, sustaining visible injuries, including bleeding.
Video footage of the incident circulated widely on social media over the New Year’s holiday, drawing significant attention. Viewers praised the cast member’s quick response, which likely prevented a more serious outcome for the audience. Following the incident, fellow cast members rushed to assist him, ensuring he received the necessary care.
Disney has since confirmed that the employee is recovering and did not suffer severe injuries. The company has committed to modifying the boulder sequence as part of a safety review to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks that come with live performances, even in a controlled theme park environment. While Disney parks are designed to offer thrills and excitement, safety remains a top priority. The response from the Disney team illustrates their commitment to both the well-being of their employees and the safety of their guests.
