Embraer has officially announced that Uzbekistan and the Philippines are the latest customers for its KC-390 airlifter and A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, respectively. This revelation, made during the Singapore Airshow, signifies a notable expansion for Embraer in the Asia-Pacific region. Uzbekistan will become the first Central Asian nation to operate the KC-390, while the Philippines is set to receive its second batch of six Super Tucanos, increasing its total to twelve.

Bosco da Costa Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, emphasized the company’s readiness to support the evolving needs of air forces in this region. “This is a clear demonstration that Embraer Defense and Security is ready for the future,” he stated. As part of its commitment to enhancing operational capabilities, Uzbekistan’s air force plans to utilize the KC-390 primarily for transport and humanitarian missions.

Details regarding the exact number of KC-390s ordered by Uzbekistan have not been disclosed. However, Embraer previously indicated in December 2024 that an “undisclosed customer” had placed an order for two aircraft. The first KC-390 for Uzbekistan is scheduled for delivery later this year, marking a significant step for the nation’s military aviation.

The Philippines’ procurement of six additional A-29 Super Tucanos also reflects an ongoing relationship with Embraer. The initial announcement for this order was made in December 2024, further solidifying the Philippines’ commitment to expanding its aerial capabilities. With this latest addition, the Philippine Air Force will enhance its operational flexibility and effectiveness in various mission scenarios.

Global Demand for KC-390 Expands

Since its introduction, the KC-390 has garnered substantial interest, with a total of 47 orders from nine different countries since its launch in 2014. Among these, South Korea is set to become a future operator after ordering three KC-390s in 2023 to bolster the airlift capabilities of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). Currently, the first aircraft for the ROKAF is undergoing final assembly in Brazil, following its departure from Embraer’s production line in December last year. It will proceed to flight testing and system integration tailored to ROKAF specifications, with delivery expected later this year.

The growing list of customers for both the KC-390 and the A-29 Super Tucano highlights Embraer’s strategic positioning in the defense aviation sector. As countries in the Asia-Pacific region continue to modernize their military capabilities, Embraer is well-positioned to meet their needs with advanced aircraft designed for a variety of operational scenarios. The company’s focus on innovation and customer support is expected to drive further growth in this competitive market.
