Director Shawn Levy has announced a significant change to the third act of his upcoming film, Star Wars: Starfighter. During an appearance on the podcast “On Film… With Kevin McCarthy,” Levy discussed the evolution of the film and how the alteration has improved the overall narrative.

In his conversation, Levy revealed that an original concept for the third act had to be scrapped due to unforeseen circumstances. He noted, “We had a whole different idea for something in the third act, and then things didn’t align, and I was forced to come up with a new idea.” Despite the challenges, Levy expressed gratitude for the outcome. “Every day, I’m grateful that the way I was supposed to do it didn’t work out because the new idea that it forced me to explore is so much better than the original idea would have been.”

Unique Pressures of Star Wars Franchise

Levy, known for his work on blockbuster films for Netflix and Marvel, described the experience of directing a Star Wars film as uniquely demanding. He acknowledged the deep emotional connection fans have with the franchise, stating, “It’s harder and a more unique pressure than any other movie you can make because you go into it understanding how deeply emotional the connection with audiences is.”

He further emphasized that while other franchises, such as Marvel, share a strong bond with their audiences, nothing compares to the “religious allegiance” that Star Wars commands. This understanding adds an intense layer of pressure to ensure the film resonates with fans.
