Americans Embrace AI Amid Economic Challenges in 2025

As 2025 nears its conclusion, data reveals significant shifts in technology adoption, economic performance, and social behaviors in the United States. Notably, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed public awareness and usage patterns. Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, awareness of AI has surged, with over half of Americans now familiar with the technology, a significant increase from just one in four. Meanwhile, the proportion of individuals unaware of AI has dwindled to a mere few percent.

The data indicates a clear divide in AI engagement across demographics. More than half of Americans with a college degree are using AI daily, along with a notable percentage of Asian Americans and individuals aged 18 to 49. In contrast, only half of those aged over 65 and individuals with a high school education report minimal interaction with AI technologies.

Economic Concerns Deepen

Economic indicators present a less optimistic picture as 2025 progresses. The U.S. economy has seen a marked slowdown in job creation, with only 64,000 jobs added so far this year. This figure is alarmingly below the 15-year average of 392,000 jobs per year, raising concerns about overall economic health.

In the face of economic uncertainty, American social habits are also shifting. Recent surveys indicate that only 54% of American adults currently consume alcohol, a decline from 67% in 2022. Additionally, 43% of respondents now view legal sports betting as detrimental to society, an increase of nine percentage points since the previous year. Marijuana use appears to be decreasing as well, with 69% of Americans stating they rarely or never use cannabis, up from 64% in 2022.

Local Progress on Heat-related Deaths

In a more positive development, local officials in the Valley have reported a decrease in heat-related fatalities this year. The confirmed number of heat deaths stands at 333, with an additional 152 cases still under investigation. This represents a significant improvement compared to last year’s total of 608 confirmed heat deaths. Even if all pending cases are confirmed as heat-related, this would still indicate a decline of approximately 17%.

This reduction highlights the impact of improved public health measures and community awareness regarding heat safety.
