Beloved Community Leader Dan Ericson Passes Away at 77

Dan Ericson, a respected figure in the South Bay community, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. He died peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach, surrounded by family and friends who cherished him deeply.

Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Dan was raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson, in the coastal communities of Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. He was an accomplished athlete at Aviation High School, where he excelled in baseball and basketball, eventually earning the title of Homecoming King. After pursuing his studies at El Camino College, Dan became a talented volleyball player, earning a spot on the team at San Diego State University.

Dan proudly served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, which he regarded as one of the defining experiences of his life. Following his military service, he briefly worked in the aerospace sector before discovering his passion for real estate. Over the decades, Dan built a thriving real estate business in the South Bay, gaining respect for his integrity, generosity, and commitment to mentoring aspiring realtors.

In 1980, Dan married his soulmate, Cetha Walkington, at Neighborhood Church. Together, they nurtured a loving family environment, raising two children, Sten and Kirstin, and welcoming a son-in-law, Katrin. Dan was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Dan was known for his kindhearted nature and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. His clever sense of humor and love for wordplay made him a joy to be near. He enjoyed surfing, fishing, and sailing, embodying a laid-back, ocean-inspired spirit throughout his life. His connection to the community was evident as a long-time parishioner of American Martyrs Church, where he was involved for over 40 years.

Remembering a Life of Service and Joy

Dan Ericson’s legacy extends beyond his family; he is remembered as a mentor to many in the real estate profession. His approach to business was rooted in honesty and kindness, encouraging others to embrace these values. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha.

The family will hold a funeral Mass and celebration of life at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. A paddle out in his honor is scheduled for January 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, welcoming all who wish to pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to mental health services and ocean therapy. Dan’s impact on his community will be felt for years to come, as those who knew him carry forward his legacy of love and generosity.
