Rose West Faces Discipline After Alleged Assault on Young Inmate
Serial killer Rose West has been accused of grooming and sexually assaulting a young inmate at New Hall women’s prison near Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Reports indicate that West, who is currently 74 years old, engaged in manipulative behavior towards the victim, described as vulnerable, prior to the alleged attack. Following the incident, prison officers acted swiftly, bringing West before a prison governor, and subsequently imposing disciplinary actions that included revoking her privileges.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the prison community. West is serving a life sentence for the murders of ten women and girls, crimes she committed alongside her husband, Fred West. Despite her frail appearance, prison sources have labeled her as “extremely dangerous.” An insider reported to the Daily Star that West cultivated a relationship with her victim, who is reportedly in her 20s, before the assault occurred.
“She befriended a young girl, in her 20s, and basically groomed her before the attack,” the source revealed, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the events. “Her victim is vulnerable, and West took advantage of her before trying to force herself on her.” The source indicated that the entire prison is abuzz with discussions about the incident, highlighting the shock among inmates who, despite their own histories, find the situation particularly repugnant.
Prison Environment and West’s History
West currently resides in Rivendell House, a specialized unit within New Hall that houses women with personality disorders or those deemed to require enhanced status. Each inmate has their own ensuite cell, and the communal areas are reportedly more inviting than those in other blocks. West occupies a ground-floor room and remains under constant surveillance due to ongoing concerns about her behavior and potential for further incidents.
Prison records suggest that West has a pattern of attempting to befriend younger women in the facility. She often offers assistance with tasks such as cooking and sewing, and has been known to slide Christmas cards under fellow inmates’ doors as a means of establishing connections. Additionally, she distributes candy boxes purchased from the prison commissary to selected individuals.
Despite her attempts at friendship, West’s reputation as a notorious criminal remains intact. After changing her name to Jennifer Jones in 2020, she continues to be recognized throughout the prison, where she is described as overweight with grey hair and wearing her characteristic thick-rimmed glasses.
The Legacy of Fred West
The legacy of violence associated with the West family looms large. Fred West, who faced charges for twelve murders, died by suicide in prison in 1995 at the age of 53, before standing trial. Meanwhile, Rose West continues to serve her life sentence, with her past crimes casting a long shadow over her current life in custody.
This latest allegation raises serious questions about safety and the management of inmates in facilities designed for rehabilitation. As prison authorities navigate this troubling incident, the implications for both West’s future and the welfare of other inmates remain to be seen.
