A Life Dedicated to Family and Community
Gino was raised in a close-knit family on Porzio Lane by his father, Luigi Porzio (1891-1956), and mother, Gina Porzio (1899-1987). He grew up alongside his siblings, including sister Rosalie Montgomery (1921-1997), sister Luisa (1923-1926), and brother Frank Porzio. His early life in Ukiah shaped his values, instilling a strong sense of community and family.
Gino’s devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Frances “Diane” Porzio, who passed away on July 20, 2020. Together, they raised four sons: Ryan (Gay), Kevin (Desiree), Scott, and Shane, fostering a home filled with love and adventure.
During his career, Gino worked as an electrician for B&F Electric, but his true passion lay in his family. He took his sons camping every year, passionately supported them at their sporting events, and coached baseball for several seasons, demonstrating his commitment to their growth and happiness.
Restoration of a Historic Landmark
In 1990, Gino embarked on a remarkable project that showcased his resourcefulness and determination. He purchased the historic Bittenbender house for just one dollar. Through hard work and dedication, Gino relocated the structure to 211 South Spring Street, breathing new life into the historic building. This endeavor is a testament to his creative spirit and commitment to preserving local history.
Gino’s impact extended beyond his immediate family. He was known for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and gentle humor. He shared a special bond with all of his dogs, further highlighting his compassionate nature. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the values he instilled in those around him.
Gino Porzio will be remembered for his kindness, craftsmanship, and the love he shared so freely. He leaves behind a profound legacy that resonates within the hearts of his family and the broader community.
A memorial service will be held at the Empire Mortuary on November 22, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gino’s life and the memories he created.
