Andre Lee Ballard, a distinguished architect known for his contributions to major projects across Asia and the Middle East, passed away at his home in London on October 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 63 years old.

Born in Montreal on October 31, 1961, Andre spent his formative years in Suffolk, Virginia. He pursued his passion for architecture at the University of Virginia, where he laid the groundwork for a career that would see him leave a significant mark on the field. Shortly after graduating, he married Mary Ellen Vance, with whom he shared a life filled with adventure and exploration.

Career and Legacy

Throughout his career, Andre’s work took him to various cities, including Norfolk, Hong Kong, and Singapore, where he not only built a family but also forged lifelong friendships. His professional journey saw him involved in significant architectural projects, including notable developments in Macau and Saudi Arabia. Among his proudest achievements was his role in the design of Zaha Hadid’s City of Dreams in Macau, which stands as a testament to his innovative vision.

Andre was well-respected not just for his architectural expertise but also for his engaging personality. His irreverent wit and broad knowledge made him a cherished friend and colleague. An avid reader, he often shared insightful thoughts on topics ranging from history to science and culture, enriching the lives of those around him.

Family and Memorial Services

Andre is survived by his dear children: Jason, Lauren, and Sophia, as well as his wife, Mary. The family has planned a funeral service in London on November 21, 2025, to honor his memory. Additionally, a memorial gathering will take place at their U.S. home located at 2709 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC, on December 6, 2025, starting from 18:00. Friends and family are invited to share stories, raise toasts, and scatter his ashes in the ocean he cherished.
