Kids Can Plant Free Trees: Sign Up for Neighborhood Forest Program
Children across various regions can receive a free tree to plant as part of the Neighborhood Forest initiative. This program aims to promote environmental awareness and encourage young people to engage with nature. Local schools, libraries, and youth organizations are participating in this effort, allowing families to sign up for a tree that will be distributed on Earth Day, April 22.
To participate, parents should check if their local institutions are involved in the “free tree” distribution. If they are, signing up is simple. Interested families will need to complete a registration process and arrange to collect their tree on or around Earth Day. If local organizations are not participating, parents are encouraged to reach out to their employers to consider joining the initiative.
According to Neighborhood Forest, over 3,500 organizations have joined the program since its inception in 2020. As a result, children have planted trees in their communities 280,000 times. Notable participants include Bridges Charter School in Thousand Oaks, Portola High School in Irvine, and the Temecula Public Library, among many others.
Sign-ups for the tree distribution are currently open and will continue until March 1. Families can expect to receive their trees during the week of Earth Day in April, making it a timely opportunity to contribute to local ecosystems.
The initiative not only fosters a sense of responsibility towards the environment but also provides children with a hands-on experience in planting and caring for trees. For more information on how to get involved, visit neighborhoodforest.org.
This program is a reminder of the importance of trees in our daily lives and their role in maintaining a healthy environment. Through such community efforts, families can play an essential part in nurturing the planet for future generations.
