Liev Schreiber Surprises Fans with Cameo in Gogol Bordello’s “Ignition”
Actor Liev Schreiber makes an unexpected appearance in the new music video for Gogol Bordello‘s single “Ignition.” The collaboration showcases Schreiber alongside the band’s frontman, Eugene Hütz, highlighting a friendship that has spanned over two decades. The video, released ahead of the band’s new album, promises to be a captivating blend of visual and musical artistry.
The music video features Schreiber in a silent yet expressive role, where he aids Hütz by taking him to a diner, symbolizing the essence of friendship and support. The song “Ignition” is the third single from the upcoming album We Mean It, Man!, which is set to be released on February 13, 2025. This album is anticipated to bring together various musical influences, including punk, gypsy music, and techno.
Schreiber and Hütz first crossed paths during the making of Everything Is Illuminated, Schreiber’s directorial debut based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. Their collaborative spirit has continued over the years, with Schreiber serving as executive producer for the documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story. In addition, the duo shared a memorable experience making Ukrainian paska at Veselka, a well-known New York eatery.
In discussing the new album, Hütz expressed that “Gogol Bordello has always been a cross-pollinator.” He described We Mean It, Man! as a convergence of their original inspirations, stating, “In terms of boiled-down multimedia collage, this is the best Frankenstein we’ve done since Gypsy Punks.” He collaborated with renowned producer Nick Launay to create this unique soundscape.
Schreiber reflected on their friendship, describing Hütz as “ridiculously insane with the heart, mind, and voice of a poet.” Hütz further elaborated, saying, “Ignition is about the hardest currency there is: lifelong friendships and trust.” He emphasized the importance of their connection, noting that he wanted an actor who could authentically convey the message of the song.
Fans of Schreiber will appreciate this unexpected venture into the music video realm, as he has previously showcased his range in films like Ray Donovan and Caught Stealing. While he is not the first actor to appear in a music video, his involvement in “Ignition” adds a fresh dimension to the piece, blending modern aesthetics with an ’80s vibe.
For those interested in the intersection of music and film, the release of “Ignition” and the album We Mean It, Man! should not be missed. The music video is available for viewing now, and the album is set to drop on February 13, 2025. This collaboration is sure to resonate with audiences, celebrating the enduring bonds of friendship through music.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project and the creative collaborations that continue to influence the entertainment landscape.
