Ryan Coogler, Chloé Zhao, and Timothée Chalamet Shine with Oscar Nominations
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards have brought exciting news for several prominent filmmakers and actors. Among those recognized are Ryan Coogler, Chloé Zhao, and Timothée Chalamet, each earning multiple nominations for their outstanding contributions to cinema.
Coogler received an impressive three nominations for his original horror feature, Sinners. He is recognized in the categories of Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture. This film has made history by garnering a record-setting total of 16 nominations, the highest number ever for a single film at the Oscars.
In a noteworthy achievement, Josh Safdie leads this year’s nominations with four nods for his work on the film Marty. He is nominated for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and as a Producer for Best Picture, contributing to the film’s overall total of nine nominations. His frequent collaborator, Ronald Bronstein, shares nominations in the Original Screenplay and Editing categories, and is also included among the Best Picture producers.
Chalamet, who stars in Marty, has earned double nominations for his role as Best Actor and as a Producer for the film’s Best Picture nomination. Notably, he is the only acting nominee returning from last year’s awards.
More Notable Nominations
Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson received three nominations for his film One Battle After Another, including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture, contributing to the film’s total of 13 nominations. Zhao, known for her work on Hamnet, also earned nominations for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and as a Producer for Best Picture, making for a total of eight nominations for the project.
In a nod to the horror genre, Guillermo Del Toro has been nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for his film Frankenstein, which received a total of nine nominations. Joachim Trier also made waves with nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for his film Sentimental Value.
Two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone secured double nominations this year for producing Bugonia while also competing in the Best Actress category. Additionally, Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi received nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature for his film It Was Just an Accident, despite facing a prison sentence in his home country.
The awards ceremony will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 15, 2024, starting at 19:00 ET/16:00 PT. With such a diverse array of talent recognized this year, audiences can expect a thrilling event celebrating cinematic excellence.
