A baby boy born just after the New Year marked a joyful start for Graciela Martinez and Alejandro Regalado at UCHealth Greeley Hospital. Their son, named after his father, made his entrance into the world at 1:01 a.m. on January 1, 2026.

Martinez was at her mother’s home, celebrating her sister’s birthday on New Year’s Eve, when she realized it was time to head to the hospital around 10:30 p.m.. “I called my husband and I’m like, get ready,” Martinez recalled, highlighting the unexpected timing of their son’s arrival.

The newborn weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. Reflecting on the experience, Martinez expressed her surprise and delight: “Obviously, it wasn’t planned or anything but that’s pretty cool. Thank God, we’re actually doing really well.”

If all goes as planned, Martinez expects to be discharged by Friday morning, ready to start their new life as a family. In celebration of their son’s birth, the family will receive a gift basket from the hospital, which includes baby clothing, blankets, and other essentials.

In 2025, UCHealth Greeley Hospital welcomed 730 babies, indicating a busy year for the facility. Information regarding the first baby born at Banner North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley was not available at the time of this report.

The arrival of Alejandro Regalado signifies not only a personal milestone for the family but also a celebration of new beginnings as the community embraces the joys of parenthood in the New Year.
