Frances Marrs, Beloved Matriarch of McKinleyville, Passes Away at 77
Frances Marrs, a cherished resident of McKinleyville, California, passed away peacefully at her home on February 16, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on July 1, 1948, in Victoria, Texas, to Lois Allien Grace and James Murdock Daggs, Frances lived a life filled with love, nurturing, and community spirit.
As a child, Frances experienced a joyful upbringing in Fairhaven on the Samoa Peninsula. She was the youngest of five siblings, growing up alongside three brothers and one sister, Betty. Their bond was evident as they spent countless hours playing on sand dunes and crafting imaginative structures from wooden blocks. Frances and Betty often created their own meals using fresh vegetables from their garden or concocted pretend blackberry wine from foraged berries.
Frances was known for her kind-hearted nature, always willing to help those in need. She shared an especially close relationship with her daughter, Tina, whom she raised alongside her sister. This unique family dynamic created a strong support system, allowing both mothers to rely on each other as they navigated parenthood.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family. Frances devoted herself to caring for numerous children, becoming a beloved figure to many. She is survived by a large extended family, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom affectionately referred to her as “GG.” One of her favorite pastimes was putting her younger relatives to sleep, often rocking them gently or lying with them to listen to the soothing sounds of nature.
Frances had a profound love for the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, soaking up the sun while watching her grandchildren play, and exploring yard sales for hidden treasures. Her passion for animals was equally strong; they were an integral part of her family life. Additionally, as she grew older, Frances discovered a talent for crafting and sewing, sharing her skills with those around her.
She is remembered not only for her nurturing personality but also for the lasting impact she made on her community. Frances was preceded in death by her two brothers, her parents, and her daughter. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to her lifelong friend, Kathy, for the unwavering support and love throughout their friendship.
The family also extends special thanks to Ayres Crematorium for their compassionate assistance during this difficult time. Frances Marrs leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be felt by all who knew her.
