Rachel Anne Hagedorn, a prominent entrepreneur and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on December 18, 1932, in Paden City, she was the daughter of the late Dougall and Edith Sims Martin. Hagedorn was widely recognized for her contributions to the Morgantown business community as the co-founder of Hagedorn’s LP Gas Service, a company established in the 1960s that became a key player in the local economy.

Throughout her life, Rachel embraced her passions wholeheartedly. An enthusiastic baker, she delighted in the culinary arts and was known for her extensive collection of cookbooks. Her love for shopping was evident in her talent for selecting thoughtful gifts that brought joy to family and friends. Yet, it was her family that brought her the greatest happiness.

Family and Legacy

Rachel is survived by her son, Randy Hagedorn, and his wife, Becky, along with their children Kris, Matthew, and Holly. Her other son, Tim Hagedorn, and his wife, Pam, also continue her legacy through their children, Tim, Jr., Luke Hagedorn, and Adrian Simms. Her daughter, Cathy Sue Hagedorn, is remembered fondly by her children, Robbie, Emily, Tyler, Jonathan, Christopher, and Michael Lazzell. Rachel was also proud of her 16 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her values and spirit.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Bill” Hagedorn, and her siblings: Lee Martin, Betty Castle, Keith Martin, Norma Jean Brass, and Dougall C. Martin, Jr. The profound impact she had on her family and community is a testament to her character and the relationships she nurtured throughout her life.

Commemoration and Arrangements

As per Rachel’s wishes, a private service will be organized at a later date. The family has entrusted Hastings Funeral Home with the arrangements, ensuring that her memory will be honored with the respect and love she deserved.
