Beloved Educator Harold Klonecky Passes Away at 98

Harold Meredith Klonecky, a cherished educator and community member, passed away at the age of 98 on November 16, 2025, in Torrance, California. His contributions to education and his lasting impact on students and colleagues are fondly remembered by many.

Born on May 22, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota, Klonecky pursued his passion for teaching after earning a Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University. He began his career in education as an English and Drama teacher. In 1955, he relocated to Torrance, where he continued his teaching career at North High School.

A Commitment to Education

Dr. Klonecky furthered his education by obtaining a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California (USC). His dedication to the field of education culminated in a 25-year tenure at Torrance High School, where he served first as an Assistant Principal and later as Principal, retiring in 1987. During his time at the school, he was well-loved by students, faculty, and parents alike.

Even at the age of 98, Dr. Klonecky remained actively involved with the Torrance High School retirees, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to fostering relationships within the community. His vibrant personality was complemented by a passion for hobbies such as golfing and reading mysteries. An accomplished dancer, he was frequently sought after as a dance partner at social gatherings.

Remembering a Kind Soul

Described as patient and kind, Dr. Klonecky touched the lives of both animals and humans. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Theresa Heiney, her husband, Jeff Heiney, and their son, Erick; as well as his daughter, Jen Sullivan, her husband, Patrick Sullivan, and their children Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Klonecky.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dr. Klonecky’s life at a Visitation and Rosary on December 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Coastal Funeral Center, located at 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita. A Funeral Mass will take place the following day, December 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, situated at 25511 Eshelman Ave, Lomita. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at Hof’s Hut, located at 23635 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance, at 11:30 AM.

Dr. Klonecky’s legacy as an educator will endure in the hearts of those he inspired throughout his remarkable life.
