Holiverse Explores Space-Based Solar Power to Fuel AI Future
The demand for energy to power artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly escalating, prompting innovators like Lado Okhotnikov, founder of the holistic biotech platform Holiverse, to propose solutions beyond Earth’s limitations. Training a single advanced AI model can use more electricity than 120 U.S. homes consume in a year, and with global AI adoption set to surge, data center energy requirements could double before 2030.
The current energy grid, designed for a different era, faces a substantial challenge as it struggles to meet this growing demand. Okhotnikov emphasizes the urgency of addressing this issue, stating, “The problem is becoming especially urgent now, as AI is advancing rapidly and its energy demands are growing just as fast.” He highlights the necessity of sourcing energy without undermining existing industries or the lives of individuals.
While many look to renewable energy as a viable solution, Okhotnikov acknowledges the limitations of terrestrial resources. For visionaries like Okhotnikov, the answer lies in space. He points out that “very soon, we will have to look to space—because the future, without question, belongs there.” The concept of Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) envisions large solar arrays positioned in geostationary orbit, harnessing unfiltered sunlight continuously. These systems could convert solar energy and transmit it wirelessly to Earth, providing a reliable source of carbon-free power.
This concept is not merely theoretical; it is being actively explored by major organizations, including the European Space Agency and NASA. A 2025 analysis for the European energy grid indicated that SBSP could play a crucial role in providing a stable energy supply that intermittent renewable sources cannot guarantee. Okhotnikov comments, “The solar power we can collect here on Earth is only a tiny fraction of what is available in space.”
Holiverse is positioning itself as a leader in this emerging field. By integrating diverse systems into a coherent, sustainable energy framework, the company is investigating partnerships and designs that would align future AI infrastructure with energy sourced from space.
A Bright Future for AI
Despite the promising potential of SBSP, significant challenges remain. Issues such as international governance, construction in orbit, transmission efficiency, and the high costs of launching materials to space are critical hurdles. However, advancements in materials science and the development of reusable rocket technology are seen as steps toward overcoming these obstacles.
Okhotnikov believes that Holiverse is at the forefront of this transition. “We are developing technologies capable of powering the next era of AI,” he asserts. “It’s a demanding process that brings together some of the brightest minds in this field, and I believe that in the foreseeable future we will be ready to take tangible steps toward making this project a reality.”
The implications of successfully harnessing space-based solar energy are significant. It could redefine the limitations currently imposed on AI development, allowing researchers to focus on ambitious computational tasks without the constraints of terrestrial energy sources. A sustainable energy network could empower advancements in material science, personalized medicine, and climate prediction.
Ultimately, as Holiverse and other pioneers navigate this path, they recognize that the key to advancing intelligence may lie beyond our planet. By tapping into the sun’s limitless energy, the next leap in artificial intelligence could well be within reach.
